ONE
SPECIAL NOTE: H-E-B will
never have to pay for advertising on this web site.
When Hurricane Rita hit southeast Texas, H-E-B was
right here in Lumberton providing ice, food, and water to everyone. They
had volunteers from local churches and other community members
helping. The
only business that was out there from nearly day one was H-E-B. They
continued to provide this free assistance for two weeks. For
those of us who were here, with no electricity, questionable
water (at first) and who were coping with temperatures in the
middle 90s, there is absolutely no way to express how fortunate
we were to have H-E-B step up and help. Those
bags of ice made all the difference in the world. For many,
this was the only source of food and clean water.
Some other businesses worked hard to open in the days
after the storm so they could provide food and other needs,
but for most it was at least a week later. Those
efforts were also appreciated, but,
and this is a big BUT, they did not take the extra
step that H-E-B did. H-E-B showed
that they cared about us. H-E-B did
not worry about profits or costs. They
just led with their hearts and showed what good neighbors they
are. No telling what all those loads of ice cost them and how
much effort went into getting them here. And
they did not wait to start providing this a week later. No,
the storm hit on Saturday and they were here Sunday.
I personally am glad to have them in our community and I am
sure that I am not alone in that. |
